Growth Characteristics of Perennial Ryegrass
نویسنده
چکیده
Mature perennial ryegrass plants in pastures persist through the asexual reproduction of the tiller. Leaves are initiated from the flanks of the tiller stem apex. Generally, two leaves arc growing on a tiller at any one time. New tiller buds may arise from the axils of mature leaves depending on environmental conditions. Flowering results from a physiological change at the stem apex, which then produces a seed head but no further leaves, eventually resulting in the tiller dying. This phenomenon and other environmental changes result in marked seasonal trends in ryegrass tiller .densities. Leaf, tiller, and root production rates are sensitive to light and temperature where nutr i t ional factors are not l imit ing. Ti l ler ing ra tes also change with s tage of regrowth af ter defol ia t ion. These factors are discussed with reference to their role in determining seasonal t r ends .

Impact of Heavy Metal Stress on In Vitro Seed Germination and Seedling Growth Indices of Two Turfgrass species
Turfgrass is one of the important components of ornamental plant in the construction of parks and landscapes so that the purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of type and different concentrations of Copper, Zinc and Cobalt on germination and seedling growth of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) seeds in in vitro conditions. This study was c...
متن کاملBlack cutworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larval emigration and biomass in mixtures of endophytic perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass.
Studies examined the possibility that mixtures of endophytic perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass provide resistance against larvae of the black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagel). We hypothesized that resistance against A. ipsilon in such stands would stem from the influence of Kentucky bluegrass on A. ipsilon growth and behavior rather than the influence of endophytic perennial rvegrass...
متن کاملThe Fungus Aspergillus aculeatus Enhances Salt-Stress Tolerance, Metabolite Accumulation, and Improves Forage Quality in Perennial Ryegrass
Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is an important forage grass with high yield and superior quality in temperate regions which is widely used in parks, sport field, and other places. However, perennial ryegrass is moderately tolerant to salinity stress compared to other commercial cultivars and salt stress reduces their growth and productivity. Aspergillus aculeatus has been documented to par...

Water shortage worldwide mandates minimum use of irrigation water with maximumefficiency and productivity in all agricultural crops, landscape plants and turf. The objective inthis experiment was to study the effect of two levels of evapotranspiration-based (ETc) droughtin combination with two levels of nanosilicon dioxide (SiO2; NanSi1=1 mM and NanSi=2 mM),two levels of digoxin (Dig1=0.25 mg.l...

Ryegrass is a highly nutritious grass that can be utilized for grazing or production of baleage, haylage, or hay. In contrast to many regions of the world that are suitable for production of perennial ryegrass, annual ryegrass varieties are best suited for use in the Southeast US. When properly managed, annual ryegrass provides moderate concentrations of degradable protein. Annual ryegrass is h...
